Beach Bag

From this…

to this. Too bad there’s no beach nearby…You can never have too many bags though!

The bag is based on a tutorial that Alisa Burke posted on her blog earlier this week and can be found here. I was in love! 2 of the beach towels were from the $2.50 bin. The other 2 were $6.00. But I am thrilled with the result! It’s reversible too. Have a happy and productive weekend!

We had a great time hanging out around the firepit on Friday night-ushering in Summer and the long Memorial Day weekend.

William’s Bday-Take 3

IMG_8091

This doesn’t really have anything to do with William’s B-day, but it was funny that Bill took a photo from the front porch  of Elizabeth and Matt.

IMG_8097

Checking out the cake once it’s frosted.

IMG_8098

And Taste testing….well-at least we know we brought the right kid home from the hospital :)

IMG_8108

Just waiting for the singing to be over so he can get to the cake eating.

IMG_8110

I don’t know WHAT this face is about, but he held it like that for the last half of the song and I had to stop singing because I was laughing so hard.  He was looking at Elizabeth-hard telling what this was about-those 2 are like twins sometimes the way they talk to each other.  That is probably why the photo is blurry-couldn’t stop laughing.  So that was William’s birthday celebration.  I have photos this year to prove it.  Happy Friday (again.)!

William’s Bday-Take 2

Making Sirloin on the Grill. Yum.

IMG_8026

I asked for a photo of me…nothing is ever easy…

IMG_8029

I think this is my first Angel Food Cake. I even found a pan hidden in my cupboards that I’m pretty sure I bought at a garage sale. So I obviously intended to make one at some point. That’s funny because Angel Food Cake is my favorite cake and it is really sooo easy!

IMG_8032

William is surveying the sirloin and the cake making to make sure everything is going as planned.

This has been Bryan lately-attached to the telephone.

Ready to eat his steak.

I love that you are a milk drinker! I was a huge milk drinker when I was young.

IMG_8081

This was his early Birthday present. He got it the day that it came out (May 18th).

IMG_8074

We had so many things to say about this card from Mom.

IMG_8075

This was actually NOT one of those things.

IMG_8084

This is the present for today. He also got season 3 from Amazon today.

Hopefully my post will work-I have a LOT of photos here-so I will upload another set.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend! I am looking forward to some time off to enjoy the sunshine! I am also planning a trip to the antique store to see if I can find some supplies for a new apron for Sari! Happy Friday!

William’s Birthday Celebration

IMG_8109

I had been planning on just buying a cake for William like I do every year.  So what did he do?  Requested Angel Food cake with chocolate glaze.  Well-I barely had time to make the cake, much less the glaze, so I bought chocolate frosting.  Which was apparently about 5 pounds too heavy for the cake.  But it tasted okay.  So I guess that’s all that counts, right?  I’ll post more pics tomorrow.  William had a good birthday.  And he got the presents that he asked for :) And he enjoyed Sarah’s blog post about him.  Have a great Wednesday!  We’re almost halfway to the long weekend.  WOOT!

Fifteen Years

img150

So…I had planned to skip the blog post today.  I’m tired and Monday is gym night, and I had other plans.  Then I remembered what tomorrow is.  And I still cannot believe that he is going to be 15.  It seems like only yesterday we were rushing to the hospital-3 weeks early and terrified.  What a sweetie.  You can almost tell in this photo how ornery he is.

img142

Wow-Pooh blankie.  And sweet William.

Eating a carrot.  What a chunky baby he was.

Happy wearing the Elmo costume at Grandma and Grandpas.

And somehow-you go from this….

to this.  In the blink of an eye.

Drinking tea.  And eating 4 pounds of twizzlers in one day.  Telling me how your stomach kind of hurts.

And getting taller than your mother.  We love you, William. Happy Birthday!

Gone Fishing & a Scrapbook Page

 IMG_7947_70s

Self portraits in the car after fishing on Saturday.  We only caught one fish, but we had a great time-no kids!  The fresh air was awesome and it was so nice to just sit and enjoy the silence.

Bryan-enjoying watching Daddy cut the head off of the yellow perch that I caught.

Elizabeth.  I’m still freaked out about taking senior pictures, so I am practicing lots of angles and types of shots.

My favorite photos from our fishing trip.  Daddy wasn’t very happy that I included this photo of him, but I told him that if you are going to do these sorts of things on film, then I am NOT going to let them languish in digital oblivion.

Hope everyone had a lazy kind of fishing weekend!  Happy Sunday!

Vintage and my Finished Apron

IMG_7777

I was going to take the day off today so it could rain so I could work in the garden.  But since it was raining, I went in to work, ran to Michael’s, Barnes and Noble, and grocery shopping.  Later in the afternoon I had an idea and was suddenly inspired to work on my apron.  While I was working on it, I saw my Jenni Bowlin bird sitting in its cage.  So I got it out and set it in the light where I could get a good photo.

IMG_7758

Here is the apron when I had everything safety pinned on to make sure that the ribbon was all the right length.

IMG_7807

Here is the finished product.

IMG_7808

I love this butterfly.  I found it at a Czech/Slovak antique store in the Czech Village in Cedar Rapids.  I saw it and instantly knew that I had to have it for this project.

IMG_7796_edit_edited-2

And here I am wearing the apron.  Have a great weekend!  Hoping for good weather tomorrow!

Banana Bread

IMG_7733

I was craving something homemade and we had a ton of bananas laying around. So I decided to make banana bread.

IMG_7742

And who else would I turn to for a banana bread recipe?  Why-the Illinois 4-H, of course! These people know their banana bread.  Moist and delicious.

 IMG_7744

Working on my grocery list for tomorrow.  And ready to plant cucumbers and zucchini.  Mmmm….

IMG_7747

The finished product.  I think I could have gotten a blue ribbon for this.  If they hadn’t cut into it the moment I took it out of the oven…

{YUM}

Hoping to get some time in the garden this weekend.  And maybe even catch a fish or two.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Happy Friday!!
