Eyeglass case & zippered wristlet

IMG_2432

So…I have been collecting some reading material over the last week.  I received a new “blank canvas” apron that I ordered online a few weeks ago and I have been trying to figure out what I want to do with it.  The designer added ruffles to her apron which I thought was awesome.  But I have never put ruffles on anything.  She also added some other fancy freehand embroidery and fabric and some other stuff that I have never really done anything with.  So-first things first.  I found some sewing books that looked interesting and I bought some fabric that caught my eye.

IMG_2489

This book in particular is very well written and has some great descriptions.  I started with this book.

IMG_2484

Saturday night I finally had enough time to start sewing.  First, I created this sweet eyeglass case that is lined with a pretty pink flannel fabric.  I have never sewn a liner before, and it was pretty sweet once I hid upstairs where I was able to get 5 minutes of quiet time to read (and understand) the directions :)

IMG_2485

I am also hoping to use this fabric in the future for a bag or purse.

IMG_2476

So then I created this zippered wristlet.  I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE!

IMG_2478

I have never sewn a zipper.  I was really excited about that!  The decorative strip of fabric isn’t sewn straight, but I don’t care.  I love the liner and all I used for the main fabric was a cotton duck canvas fabric that I use for a lot of my fabric projects.

IMG_2482

Here is a close-up of the wristlet.  There are some other projects that I am looking forward to working on in the book for the future.  Maybe tomorrow.  Bryan was impressed with the zipper too.  And soon I will be confident enough in my sewing ability to work on the apron :)  Happy Sunday!

Around Here Spring Fever

Around here, everyone is getting a little case of spring fever.

IMG_2381_edit

Around here, William is sporting a piece of fabric that was on the table.  Smashing…

IMG_2395

Around here, Bryan has been reading about investing.  Maybe he can teach me something.

IMG_2399

Around here, William was sleeping soundly, so I was brave and took a photo.

IMG_2400

Around here, Ralph gets stuck wearing whatever the kids put on him.

 IMG_2408

Around here, Elizabeth is wearing William’s Winter Formal tie.

IMG_2407

Around here, Daddy is wearing William’s Winter Formal tie.

Around here….everyone is a little bit ready to get outside.

Around here…I am enjoying figure skating when I have a chance at the tv.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Blast From the Past

Snowmen_2005_123-2398_IMG

From 2005-I have been going through old photos occasionally and ran across these.  Bill helped the kids make a giant snow bunny!

Totally Random Tuesday

IMG_7841

Okay-I’m too tired to do much, so I’m recycling photos that are in my 2009-Fall Highlight Folder.

William is so cute.

IMG_7837

Yes…I used the word “dong.”  And I got points for it.  So?  Yes. I have an engineering degree…

and my personal favorite…heh heh…shopping at Dick’s.

Looking forward to spending Wednesday with the science classes at Bryan’s school.  4-6th grade classes and 2-7th grade classes.  We visited one 8th grade “guinea pig” class today to make sure our presentation didn’t bomb.  It was a lot of fun!

Happy Wednesday!

New Glasses

IMG_2339 IMG_2345 IMG_2346 IMG_2347

Elizabeth got new glasses and I thought it was funny that she grouped her Long John Silvers by food type on Friday night.

Sorry-I don’t have much time to post-crazy busy at work and spending some time at Bryan’s school this week.

Happy Tuesday!

Band Night

IMG_2305_edit1

Isn’t she pretty!??!  I can’t believe how old she is getting!

Last night was the band carnival at Elizabeth’s high school.  I love watching the band perform.

IMG_2295

Elizabeth finally looked at us.  And Daddy gave her a big wave. And continued to wave.  So after a dozen photos, I finally got a smile.  And I love the manual focus by the way.  It is perfect for situations like this where the camera wants to focus on everyone under the lights, except the girl that I want to see!

IMG_2309

I tried really hard to get the crazy kids to stand together for a photo.  But this was the best I could do.  Nice, huh?  Half-chewed popcorn….Yum.

Have a great weekend!  Looking forward to watching more of the Olympics and hanging out with family.

IMG_2202 William-eating his jellybellies.  Ralph has his eyes on it.

We had a great valentine’s day.  Hope you did too.   My science club will be dropping eggs using their designs in an egg drop competition on Thursday afternoon!  It’s my favorite competition.  Happy Thursday!

The Story of SuperBowl Weekend-Part 2

7. Trip to Michael’s/shopping in my studio:   I thought it was cute that Sarah took photos of things that she liked in my magazines and in my studio.

8. Snow as soon as Mom gets here.  As soon as Mom and Dad got here-the snow started.  So that we could worry about them driving back.  Stupid snow!

IMG_2026

9. Eating cookie dough.  Jake taking photos of Sarah and I eating the Oatmeal Cookie dough.

IMG_1886

10. Dad playing MahJong on my computer.  Nice. I don’t normally allow game playing on my computer.  But I will make an exception…just this once.

IMG_2025

11. Katie printing some stuff for school.  Funny that Katie printed out her homework in Iowa.  Funny that Katie wants a planner too.  I hope she doesn’t come up and crack the whip on me.

IMG_2022

12.  Everyone eating cap’n crunch for breakfast. If I’d known I would have bought 2 boxes. I will have to buy it more often :)  And Sarah taking a photo of her cap’n crunch :)

13.  3-3rd shifters hanging out with a combined amount of about 10 hours of sleep over 3 days. Which made for a kind of early night on Friday.  But it was great to have everyone together!

IMG_1876

14. Rice Krispie Footballs.  There aren’t enough cocoa krispies because William ate them and I had to use regular krispies too.  Everyone was standing around watching me make them.  And they were tasty.  Yum.

IMG_1990 IMG_2034

15. The nurses talking about digitally removing things.  Eeew.  Of course-I was trying to figure out how to use a computer to remove body stuff….and then I got it….

IMG_1901

16. Butch playing in a Call of Duty Scrimmage on Saturday night instead of hanging out with us.  He took a little good natured {?} ribbing for it.

17. Sarah taking a photo of Jake first thing on Saturday morning because she thought his hair looked funny.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED having everyone spend the weekend with us.  You guys are welcome to come and visit ANY TIME!

SuperBowlWeekend_1_edited-3 Template and paper-Michelle Martin, both available at designer digitals.com

18. Sari, when I was sitting at the computer Sunday morning, putting photos in a Photoshop heart.  “Are you SCRAPBOOKING?”  “Yes.”  {Since I cannot for the life of me figure out where I hid the heart page that wasn’t complete, I will just show the one that I did finish instead.}

Happy Tuesday!
