Summer Memory #12 Washing the Car

IMG_0019

I have been waiting for quite some time (patiently) for my car to get washed.  Because…well…why would I do it myself…that’s man’s work :)

 IMG_0022

So finally, my husband graciously washed my car after the gym on Monday.

IMG_0012

And being the sweetheart that I am…well…I stood around taking photos.  Because that…is what I do…

IMG_0053

And now…my car looks beautiful again.  And all ready to take out on the road.  Zoom zoom.  {Well-that’s a different make of car, but she zoom zooms better anyway.}

Happy Wednesday!  Looking forward to getting one day closer to the long weekend!

Summer Memory #11-Flag Football

IMG_9945

Bryan played flag football for 6 hours on Saturday.  5 games.  I don’t know how he did it.  I sat in the shade for 5 hours and I still got sunburned!  He had fun, even if he did get stuck on a team with 2 ball-hogs who kept throwing the ball back and forth to each other.

Happy Tuesday!

Camp Scrap Layouts #1-edited

IMG_9985

It has been a couple of months since I have done any paper scrapbooking, so once I got over my initial scrappers block on this page, I whipped out the second one in like 5 minutes.  This first layout is VERY loosely based on the Friday sketch that we received in our email.  I had all kinds of trouble choosing paper for this layout and finally realized that what I really wanted was a simple layout with no frills.  The chipboard letters are from Walmart (like 2 or 3 years ago) and the little tag is from a garage sale :)

IMG_9986

I knew exactly what I wanted for this layout.  I have had that “beach” title sitting around for years…3 or 4 maybe?  And I dug it out to go with this layout. The crown was laying around on my desk and so was the button and the sheet music punched heart.  I love the look of a white pen on dark cardstock!  The paper is from Colorbok-some new colors/designs that I found at Walmart on Saturday.

IMG_9625

I almost forgot to add this layout to the post!  I created this one first, inspired by May Flaum’s post somewhere.  I can’t find the post now that I want to post a link to it, but trust me, it looks similar to this.

I am looking forward to doing some more layouts for Camp Scrap this week too!

Summer Memory #10-Marshmallow gun

 IMG_9978

I love this marshmallow gun that Bryan made out of PVC tubing and elbow joints.

IMG_9980

Tigger would growl and bark until he would shoot the marshmallows, then she would run over to eat them.  :)

Plus-the ammunition is pretty cheap.  Cheaper than plastic B-Bs.  Plus they don’t end up laying around on the floor.

Have a great Monday!

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth!

IMG_9860

Happy “17” Elizabeth!

IMG_9861

We love you!

IMG_9845

Last year, Elizabeth wanted a brownie cake from DQ (and since I don’t order things ahead of time anymore) but all we could find was cookie dough.  This year she wanted a cookie dough cake and all they had was brownie cake.  So it took a year, but eventually it worked itself out.

 IMG_9853

Opening presents!  Daddy said something about them being for him, and Elizabeth and I both said that if he could fit into them, then he could have them.

 IMG_9854

New American Eagle flip-flops and the other gift is a pair of AE shorts. {They would NEVER fit Daddy!}

She got a couple of other gifts earlier in the week.  Happy Birthday, sweetie.  Hope you had a good one!

Summer Memory #9-Home

IMG_9671

People can say what they will about Iowa. (And I know that they do :) But I have adopted it as my home. And I like it here…a lot. I even love living in the city. With the ability to escape to the outdoors just a few miles or hours away, depending on where we want to go. And I love the view of the downtown skyline. I have been wanting to take this photo since we moved here and I finally had an opportunity when I was taking some photos for the Summer of Love class that I won a spot in.

Hope everyone is having a happy Friday! Enjoy!

Summer Memory #8-My Guard Dogs

IMG_9560

Puppies protecting me while I am journaling in my little corner of the firepit area of the yard.  I love to sit on my concrete bench and journal outside.

Ralph is so funny!  He plops down in front of the fence and barks like crazy if he sees anyone walk by or if he hears someone talking.

IMG_9568

Tigger has always been my special guard dog.  She is guarding me from above here.  If she sees someone walking by before Ralph, she takes off and barks like crazy.

Together, they frighten away any “would-be” intruders.  Or the average person who just happens to be walking past.  Sometimes, Tigger will bark if people are going the wrong way on the one way street.  She knows that it isn’t right.

Summer Memory #7-Love Notes

IMG_9078

Pudge is always so sad when Elizabeth is away.  Which happens a LOT.

 IMG_9450

Ralph is always happy.  But especially when we come home after being gone for a few hours.

Elizabeth reading love notes between her and her boyfriend to the dogs at midnight.  Pudge escaped.  Elizabeth forced Ralph to stay for a few minutes, but he finally escaped too.

Summer Memory #6

IMG_8071_edit

I don’t have a specific photo to go along with this one (William tends to pop in and out of a room quickly and at strange times when I don’t have my camera-such as right now as I type this), but the memory is something that I definitely want to remember.

On Monday, William watched all 3 of the Lord of the Rings-extended edition movies.  In a row.  IN ONE DAY!  That is like 12 hours of movie watching!  Wow!

There is a texting conversation between Sarah and I about this that I also want to remember.

********************************************************************************************************************************************

Me: Ha Ha!  William watched all 3 of the extended version lotrs today.

Sarah:  WHAT!?!?  What an amazing accomplishment!  I’m such a proud aunt right now!  I wish I had an attention span like him!  He’ll b a great college student!

Me: He even returned each one to its correct position on my shelf when each movie was over!  he’s getting so grown up!

Sarah: And so type A…just like his mommy…awww…

Me: I know right.

Sarah: Ikr ;) Lol!  Too funny!

********************************************************************************************************************************************

I love saving texting conversations. Since I very rarely txt it is REALLY easy for me to go through my txts.  Now-I can’t imagine a certain teenage girl trying to save her conversations…

I am having an awesome, relaxing, creative vacation.

Have a happy Thursday!!

Summer Memory #5

IMG_3646

Playing at the “Beach.”  Of course, we here in the Midwest use the term, “Beach” pretty loosely.  At any rate, it was still fun.

IMG_3644

We swam for a LONG time.  It was REALLY fun.

IMG_3648

I played in the sand a little.  And even did some journaling while the boys were still in the water.

IMG_3661

Self-portraits.

IMG_3652

Tevas!  I have had this pair for a long time.  And they are super comfy.

The beach was seriously awesome.  There were very few people there-in fact, there were very few people at the campground all weekend.  And it WAS SOOO Peaceful.  Loved it.

Also-I have not forgotten about father’s day-and yes I am a bad wife & daughter, but I had to run in to work Sunday afternoon when we got back from camping and since I got home from work tonight I have been working on some other projects.  I will try to get a post together tomorrow.  Happy Tuesday!!

Summer Memory #3

img157

{Sky Ranch Day Camp circa 1979}

img158

I registered for a scrapbooking class at Big Picture Scrapbooking for a class called “Camp Scrap” and so I am totally thinking about all things camp related.  I wish I had some pics from 4-H camp.  It was the best!  Even though I was totally homesick.  I still loved it.  Enjoy!  Happy Friday!

Summer Memory #2

IMG_8628_edit

{Bubbles in the Rain}

IMG_8629

Trying not to get my camera wet.  Daddy yelling at me not to take my camera into the rain.

IMG_8635

Bryan blowing bubbles.  I bought a giant thing of bubbles a few weeks ago.  The kids told me that there was no wand in the bottle.  {The bottle said it came with a wand.}

IMG_8638

So I bought another giant bottle of bubbles.  We now have 3 giant bottles of bubbles at our house.  And 1 wand.

IMG_8639

I was hoping to take some photos of reflections in the bubbles.  But since I’m not supposed to take my camera into the rain…well…photos of Bryan are ok too!

IMG_8648

Especially photos of Bryan trying to eat the bubbles.  It kind of reminds me of Sixteen Candles after the wedding when Molly Ringwald’s older sister is trying to catch the rice in her mouth.  Heh heh…80’s movies…

I am very excited to see that the forecast has moved from a 30% chance of rain on Friday to a 60% chance of rain on Friday.  Which means an excellent chance of us either NOT camping…or us GETTING WET.

Happy Thursday!

Summer Memory #1

IMG_8915 IMG_8912  IMG_8926 IMG_8927

Summer Memory #1:  Playing with old sparklers in the driveway.  They didn’t burn very long.  But they sure were pretty.  I will buy new ones for July 4th.

IMG_8928

Elizabeth, Bryan, and Matt played with fire in the driveway.  Note to self-Bryan should not play with fire.

Happy Wednesday!

Simon’s Birthday-Preview

IMG_8672

On Saturday we went to Simon’s first birthday party.  We had a lot of fun.  I struggle so much with indoor photography.  I spend all kind of time in my own house trying to find the best light at different times of day.  Luckily, Paul and Deborah have a house with LOTS of windows, so there was a lot of natural light flooding into the house.  Here is a sneak peak of the photos that I took.

Simon with Mommy.

Paul.

IMG_8790

Simon with his cake.  Did I mention that these photos are REALLY out of order?

IMG_8758

Melinda, Corey, and Kian.  I love family shots.

IMG_8791

Kara is very independent, so I thought it was fitting that she is in a photo by herself.

IMG_8810

This is probably the best smile I got from Simon all day.

IMG_8767

Grandpa played Happy Birthday on the guitar.

IMG_8769

And Simon absolutely LOVED IT!!!

IMG_8724

Kara in her pretty party dress that her Daddy bought her.

I hope you enjoy the sneak peak.  I hope to have photos to share with the families on Wednesday.

IMG_8729

Look at those adorable freckles!  {It’s been FOREVER since I celebrated a 1st birthday!}

Happy Tuesday!
