Painting Daisies in the Studio

IMG_0442

On February 16th, we were shopping at Walmart and they had Valentine bouquets clearanced for like $6 or $7. Perfect!

IMG_0445

Pure white daisies are one of my favorites.  Love them and they last a LONG time.

IMG_0441

So pretty! So I decided that they were fabulous inspiration for my next painting.

A quick sketch in my sketchbook one morning before I left for work.

IMG_0463

Then I added some daisies on top of a background that I created.

IMG_0464

Love these.

IMG_0467

Added some stems.

IMG_0468

Love how they are looking.

IMG_0472

Added some more daisies and started working on stems.

And right now I’m here. I had planned to add some detail, but my husband likes it the way that it is, so I may leave it.  I’ve moved it to the dining room so that I can peak at it several times a day to decide what I want to do with it next.  I’m tempted to add a word to the top and maybe some India ink drops, but I may really just leave it as it is.  And the more I look at it, the more I’m thinking that I really need to add some yellow to the daisy centers.   Open-mouthed smile  I’ll keep you posted.

Happy Friday!

In the Studio-February 2013

IMG_0386

So after taking a couple of months off from painting, I am finally back in the studio.  We have a new furnace and a second vent (YAY!) in the attic/master bedroom/studio and the temperature is now quite lovely and conducive to painting!  First up-my paint tray right now.

IMG_0308

I don’t have a photo of the painting when I first started out with the background, but I was initially heading toward putting a heart on the canvas. My word of the year for 2013 is “Love” plus Valentine’s Day is close, so hearts are on my mind. This is the stage where I always worry a little about the painting because I am just building layers and it looks really crappy. (It’s all about trust.)

Next Step.

IMG_0363

Then I decided the heart needed to go.  I love the blue colors together.

IMG_0401

I had some pages in my art journal that I was playing with ideas for the canvas.  I decided to go with the flower.

IMG_0366

Then I sketched the flower with India ink.

IMG_0376

And filled in the background and the flower a little bit more.

Here are a couple of close-ups of me painting the outline of the flower.

IMG_0403

I had originally planned to write “Love” in India ink as well, but I decided to stay with the pthalo blue.

IMG_0404

My plan is to move the painting somewhere that I will see it everyday to remember my word.  I will probably put it on the wall in the dining room where the canvas with last year’s word resides.

Love how the flower turned out Smile.  I love finishing a painting.  Have a great week!
