Fall Decorating

Project Week Continues!  I have a couple of Fall Decorating projects that I wanted to share too. 

 

I created this using some various odds and ends that I had laying around the scrap room.  What started it was a trip to the antique store where I found the orange ade cap.  I thought it would be perfect for a Halloween scrapbook page.  As I started thinking about it, I remembered this old photo album that I picked up at a garage sale many years ago.  I thought it was cool, but I had no idea what I was going to do with it.  Especially when I realized that the pages had spiders and cobwebs on it.  Well…spiders and cobwebs was what I was thinking about when I remembered the pages and knew what I was going to do with the page.  I had some letter tiles and I used those to spell out “boo.”  I used a piece of vintage seam binding to tie a bow around one side of the frame.  The raven is a glitter sticker, the owl is a piece of grungeboard painted with black paint, and the bat is grungeboard with black glitter.  I added a piece of black cardstock to the back and grabbed a Halloween photo (circa 2001) that included count Dracula, the good witch, and Pikachu.  

I saw the idea for these pumpkins on Alisa Burke’s website here.  This pumpkin was my second attempt.  I used Tulip Slick fabric paint in white for the design and Tulip metallic purple fabric paint for the purple dots.  This pumpkin went to Paul and Deborah for having us over for their pumpkin carving party. 

This pumpkin was my first try.  I didn’t really like the way the green looked, so I kept this one for myself.  It is growing on me…

The weekend is moving ever so much closer.  I can’t wait.  I will have a special post tomorrow for a special person in my family.

Busy Tuesday

 

Basketball!  I haven’t been to a middle school basketball since William played basketball in 8th grade.  I forgot how much fun it can be! 

I was also pretty impressed.  Bryan plays a lot of basketball, but I didn’t realize just how athletic he really was. 

Action shot.  This one came down to the wire.  OMG!  So close to winning.

With 16 seconds to go, the score was 23-22 Rams.  Then the Lancer’s scored.  24-23 at the buzzer…

Less than an hour later we were here.  (Thank goodness for the crock pot and my loving husband who was kind enough to put ribs in the crock pot this morning since he was off today.)  Bill and I were wondering what happened to Bryan.  Elizabeth and William clearly got all of the gene that causes them to “Care” what they look like (even a little more than some).  Bryan…he didn’t get that gene…at all.  He didn’t even tie his shoes. He was mad because he couldn’t just wear jean shorts.  So I guess I got part of what I wanted.  He did wear the dress pants.  

The concert was awesome.  And very fast after sitting in a gym watching 2 hours of basketball. 

And after all that…yes…we voted!

Bryan took a photo of us too.  Bill kept trying to get me to touch his “Hiney” (Heineken), but I told him no :)

Project Week-December Daily {Days 16-25}

 

 

Back to December Daily!  If you missed Day 1 – 15, you can find those pages here.  I’m really excited about filling this up with all of the little things that we do during Christmas.

For day 16, I added a post-it reminding me that I have a Tim Holtz “1” and “6” set aside for this day.  I didn’t want to add it to the page quite yet because I’m not sure how I will use the page yet.   

Day 17: One of the things that I loved about the album last year was painting directly on a sheet protector, then stitching through it, and adding a photo on top. 

Extra: Love this flocked transparency.  I’m not sure what I want to do with it yet, but I love it!

Day 18:  Looks like a great page to put the lists!

Day 19:  I’m really loving these colors-red, blue, pink, light green, and brown. 

 

Day 20:  An open donna downey 8x8 canvas page.  

Day 21: More Christmas trees to match Day 1.

Day 22:  Hopefully it will snow and I can take some photos to match the snowflakes:)

Day 23: Just a small leftover piece of brown paper. 

Day 23:  I love this glittery paper too.  Not sure what to do with it either, but it is pretty.

Day 24:  I’m looking forward to using the Jenni Bowlin Christmas chipboard buttons.

I had some leftover papers that I wanted to include, so these don’t have numbers. 

I love anything flocked.  Sometimes it is just pretty to look at by itself.

Day 25. The best thing about Day 25 is printing out the Christmas photo and journaling about how everyone’s Christmas was. 

I bought the album at a garage sale for $0.50.  A bargain, I would say. 

Not very thick right now, but I’m sure it will grow to at least 3 times that thickness. 

I am getting excited to fill it up!  Only one more month.  I still want to make web versions of the pages and upload to Ali’s Flickr group.  And I plan to spend as much of November as I can working on Christmas projects.

Happy Halloween 2010

Project Week will continue tomorrow, but real life caught up with me the last few days.  I always forget how many Halloween traditions we celebrate every year too.  Most of my Halloween excitement starts just a day or two before Halloween, so it is sometimes a struggle to get it all done before dark on Oct 31!

One of my favorite traditions is pumpkin carving.  There is something about waiting until the last minute (Halloween afternoon) every year and rushing to get them finished before the sun goes down. 

 

Elizabeth didn’t carve this year.  She wasn’t feeling well, so I got to carve her pumpkin instead.

William carved his own pumpkin.  He chose a face because he thought it looked like Voldemort.

(William has always liked the Harry Potter movies, but lately he has been READING all of the books.  I am very proud of him because he has been reading like crazy lately.)   

Bryan carved his own pumpkin too.  He made a cute jack ‘o’ lantern face.

Actually, we had a nice, relaxed afternoon of pumpkin carving.  I enjoyed it!

I made some caramel apples too.  Yum. 

I also made some sugar cookies. 

Which I also enjoyed. 

 

After I made the cookies, I was digging through cupboards and I found some Halloween cookie cutters that I forgot that I had.  Oops.  Maybe I will make some ghosty cookies next year…

Bryan did some facebooking this morning. 

I found a lovely skeleton garland at Michael’s on Saturday.  I thought it was festive :)

Celebrating Halloween

 

A pair of spooky halloween canvases inspired by an article by Jodi Ohil in Somerset Holidays and Celebrations 2010 issue.

These were incredibly easy to make. 

I used black apple barrel paint on each 6x6 canvas. 

Then I used a white charcoal pencil to draw the background.

 

I gathered various orange colors from throughout the studio-an orange pastel, indian hue and nickel azo gold Golden paints.  And some sakura pens and white gel pens to finish off the look! 

I painted the other canvas with various orange paint hues.  To get the leaf shape, I sprayed Tim Holtz ink using a real leaf as a mask  Then I let the ink dry and outlined the leaf with a black pastel and added a couple of words with a gel pen.  One word says “fall” and the other says “autumn”.  Voila!

I did have a set of 3 hanging in my studio.  But I brought one down to scan and it looked good on the living room wall. 

So that is where is currently sits.
